Sahra Bhimji

Since 1999, I have made over 20 short films, from experimental films to comedies. These works play on the themes that fascinate me: identity, language, love, travel and humanity.  Below are a selection of short films I have written and directed, some with links to view the films.

2008. 3 min. A comic look at a boy getting his first pair of glasses.

2008. 1min. A photo-montage exploration of memory and identity.
➢    Winner of the monthly audience vote on Renderyard.com
➢    Selection in the CologneOFF 2009 film festival (Germany) and One Minute Film & Video Festival (Aarau, Switzerland)

Super-16mm, 8 min. (Graduate thesis film)
A surrealist tale about a young girl’s magical journey towards her own birth.

 2006. 3 min. A look at the effects of Alzheimer disease on my step-father.  
➢    Winner of the Filmaka.com Jury’s 1st prize April 2007

2005. 16mm, 3min. A documentary about an exciting Dance Dance Revolution videogame tournament.  
➢    Screened at San Francisco’s Film Finals (45th anniversary student film competition)

2004. 16mm, 9 min. Black and White.  
The story of a girl who uses her imagination to save her grandmother’s favorite tree
